The Shop
Helix Motorsports is headquartered in the beautiful Manayunk/Roxborough section of Philadelphia. Our 5700-square-foot shop is equipped with state-of-the-art shop equipment, including BMW and MINI factory software diagnostic packages, BendPak chassis lifts, computer controlled wheel and tire equipment, a laser wheel alignment system, and all of the special tools required to service BMWs and MINIs. We are located just two blocks from I76, convenient to both Center City Philadelphia and the Suburbs. We routinely service cars from the tri-state area, and have several clients from further afield.
Helix Motorsports was founded in 2001, shortly after BMW released the new MINI in Europe. Before the MINI became available in the United States, Helix was already in the process of designing MINI performance parts for first generation models. We were the first to import a left-hand-drive MINI into the United States, long before any MINI dealerships had one. We brought it in from Gothenburg, Sweden in November of 2001 to get a head start on developing performance parts. Since its inception, Helix has dedicated itself to producing top-quality performance parts for the MINI and BMW, verified with our in-house Mustang MD-250 load-type dynamometer.
Founded in 2001, Helix was formed to design and produce specialty and performance components for the newly-released MINI. The new MINI’s appearance in the United States was preceded by its European launch. Helix Took advantage of vehicle importation restriction loopholes to get a new MINI before they were available in the US. By acquiring a US Customs bond, we were the first to import a left-hand-drive MINI into the United States, long before any MINI dealerships had one. We brought it in from Gothenburg, Sweden in November of 2001 and immediately began developing performance parts.
In conjunction with key design and manufacturing partners, we developed benchmark-setting components, including the reduced supercharger pulley for the 1st generation MINI.
Helix was the first company to design and install a reduced supercharger pulley in a R53 MINI, thanks in part to the genius of John Milich, one of our early partners. We also developed adjustable rear control arms and front camber plates to more accurately set wheel alignment.
We also have been at the forefront of aftermarket intercooler design, introducing a stepped-core heat exchanger that revolutionized the BMW/MINI performance industry.
Since its inception, Helix has dedicated itself to producing top-quality performance parts for the MINI and BMW, verified with our in-house Mustang MD-250 load-type dynamometer.
